PDS0202 combines the utility of the Versamune® platform with influenza antigens.
Influenza or flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness and can result in death. Influenza is estimated to result in about 3 to 5 million cases of severe illness, and about 290,000 to 650,000 respiratory deaths globally each year. There are 4 types of seasonal influenza viruses, types A, B, C and D. Influenza A and B viruses circulate and cause seasonal epidemics. A universal flu vaccine would provide robust, long-lasting protection against multiple subtypes of flu, rather than a select few. Such a vaccine would eliminate the need to identify the strain, update and manufacture a new seasonal flu vaccine each year and could provide protection against newly emerging flu strains, potentially including those that could cause a flu pandemic.
PDS0202 is currently in pre-clinical development.
